Recently, have been looking through movies, trying to think of things for background noise. One I put in over the weekend really took me by surprise again (Except the ending, Ugh), and another was brought back to me be the title of a friend's post.

THAT one was Fight Club...a movie I have Echo to thank for hooking me on. The previews for tha movie sucked ass..it looked like a 'Oh, a Brad Pitt fighting movie...feh, BORING', and yet, upon watching it, it has several layers, and things that later make you go "Wow...wow...."

The sad part is that I can't really going into many details on the movie, because to do so robs it of some of the mystique of piecing things together...which, now that I think, I've seen other movies do similar concept lately...so, anyone watching Fight Club NOW would go "Oh, I see where this is going". Feh. If you can deal with blood and violence (almost Ultra-Violence, to steal from Clockwork ORange), I would recommend it to any of my friends. You may see some parts of it coming, but it is still a pleasant ride.

The first movie is "Near Dark", one of the better Vampire movies I've ever seen.

In it, our hero, Caleb (Played by Adrian Pasdar) spies a young girl who he takes an interest in. She bites him, and he starts to go home...as the sun is rising, he notices that his skin is starting to smoke...in front of the eyes of his sister, he is kidnapped by folks in an RV, with foil and paint on the windows.

Turns out this is the vampire "clan" of Mae, the girl...in it are Jesse (the leader, and played well by Lance Henrickson), Diamondback (Played by Jeanette Goldstein), Severen (A GREAT part for Bill Paxton), Mae, and Homer, who is quite an old vampire, but looks like a child.

Now, this isn't your typical vampire movie....it very well mixes the western with a vampire flick, and creates something a bit different than normal. Again, much like my favorite show Ultra Violet, the word vampire is never uttered once in the movie. Add to that, it has its own style...a very stylistically well done film.

If you can, borrow it from a friend, or rent it, you shouldn't be disappointed.

Other little trivial bits...Lance Henrickson apparently drove around in make-up to get into character..and was pulled over and scared a cop. Tangerine Dream did the musical score, they of the 80s "Legend" score. The director actually called Jim Cameron up, because 3 of the members of her cast were a cannibalization of his film "Aliens".

Anyways, that's all I can think of. :-)
