So, finally managed to see Saw II..

And, I have to admit, I liked it better than the first.

The first Saw basically was about two men who wake up in a small room. Both are chained to a wall, and come to realize they are victims of a "serial killer" name Jigsaw. Jigsaw isn't your standard killer...what he does is force people into situations that are choices...they choose to take drastic means to save their lives, or they die. It is a point of interest in the movies that Jigsaw doesn't "kill" anyone..he merely puts the situation in place for them to die.

A neat point in the second movie deals with exactly that...but, that's getting ahead.

Saw caught on with a lot of people because of its seeming "newness"..it's a dark, dreary movie...and with a glut of horribly thought out "horror" films, this one seems mostly refreshing and new.

The sad is that these movies are currently caught in the M. Night syndrome...that there has to be a suprise "twist" ending. For the first, I should have seen it coming a mile away...for the second one, I actually DID see it coming, but was still pleasantly surprised at how it was executed, no pun intended. :-P

The second movie picks up after the first one, but there is no way to tell how much time has elapsed. In it, 7 people wake up in a room (shades of Cube...another favorite psychological thriller), and must find out how to get out, before a nerve agent kills them. One of them is the son of a police detective, another is a survivor from the first movie (played by Shawnee Smith...you may remember her from the remake of The Blob, or from The Stand, or becker)...another notable guest star is the girl who played Lucy on 7th Heaven.

As you'd expect, there are deaths, and a bit of gore...however, this movie didn't seem to have as much as the previous one.

I can't go into much detail, of course, as there are serious spoilers for the movie...all I can say is, with the first 2, I eagerly look forward to a third movie in this franchise, and think this could be the next big franchise...so long as they can keep it written well.

No, I don't recommend this for everyone...but, for horror fans, or fans of psychological thrillers, I highly recommend it.

Wickedsin? You're not allowed. :-) Trust me.
