Ok, so my curiousity has been picqued (spelled right?) by another person on LJ who is now friended..

In particular, it has to do with Voice Acting...course, it doesn't help that I've been rereading a comic, and picturing my voice for varied characters...

So, the question goes out to at least one of my friends...how do you get into this? What sites do you check, or how the hell do you jump in?

Woo! I hang out on the Voice Acting Alliance boards a lot. http://voiceactingalliance.com/board/ That's where I started. They have a whole section devoted to tutorials and stuff: http://voiceactingalliance.com/board/forumdisplay.php?f=15

You'll need a microphone (duh), some software (I use Audacity, which is free) and a chunk of time when it's quiet. Background noise is a no-no.

While a majority of my auditions/roles are from the VAA boards, I'm also a member of Dream Realm Enterprises. They just started a new Yahoo group to help new VAs (and experienced VAs too): http://groups.yahoo.com/group/drecasting/

*ponder* I think I covered everything. I started doing voice acting last year but it's only recently that I've really gotten into it.

*giggle* I figured the number of VAs on your friends list couldn't be all that high. Oh, I forgot to mention...a lot of AVAs (amateur voice actors) are teenagers. So while I'm pushing into senility, a good part of the community hasn't hit puberty yet ;) That makes nabbing auditions a little difficult sometimes but I think you just have to look for the right roles and keep in mind that you most likely won't be able to play the 16-year old hero.
