Damn the media mind.
Jan. 29th, 2004 02:41 pmAll right. So, for the last week, I've felt myself going into a "Twin Peaks" mode...
Watched the Pilot, which is a disc from Asia, and then watched the First Season, which was legitimately released on DVD 2 years ago...7 episodes.
Season 2 has yet to be released...and, it's looking like it could be a good long while for that.
Twin Peaks...one of the first Serial TV shows (Non-Daily-Soap Operas notwithstanding) I recall...and just weird and quirky. Yes, it tended to be a "You either loved it or hated it" thing...but, with people getting more into serial storytelling (in no small part thanks to Babylon 5), Twin Peaks still shines. Yeah, it's got its flaws...dated hairstyles, some overdrama...but, still quirky and at points fun.
The series was one for technically, 2 seasons...then, came out with a movie that took place before the series...
I wish David Lynch would get off his butt and do a sequel movie...it's been 14 years....I'd love to see what they could do that would wrap the show up better than it was. A LOT of why people were ultra-disappointed in Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me was that it didn't feel like a closing/resolution to Twin Peaks the Series..it felt like just a prequel...and a slightly muddy, confused one. It took me several viewings to be able to understand it, and to actually appreciate it a bit.
It's sad that right now, the only way to see the Second Season of Twin Peaks is to rent the Spanish DVDs...the VHS tapes that have been available in the states for a long time are amazingly shitty. To the degree that when I popped the first disc of Season 1 into the DVD player, I marvelled and just stared...THIS was how it appeared when it was first on TV.
Also fun to note some of the names that were in Twin Peaks...not just the regulars, but David Duchovny was in it, Billy Zane, and Heather Graham. That last one tends to surprise people.
