per_soloAh, I can never remember the branch of philosophy or psychology that deals with this.
Class today was great. I'm more certain, as time goes on, that I've picked the right goal/major, even when the demons start baying for certain shreds. And when I don't feel that, it'll change.
The philosophy is basically that every decision leads to where you are at. The good ones, the bad ones. That when things are going well, it all seems as if it has been putting you in the position you are at.
I'm trying to explain the concept. Basically, this is one that bothers me, as it seems to take conscious choice away from you, and makes ones life just a series of events, up to the interpretation of the moment. And channels in concepts such as fate, that you're just along for the ride. I despise the concept of fate, that one is not in control of their destiny. Yes, I have some control issues, I'm aware of That. :-)
I like to think that eventually I'd have gotten here without some of the items in the past, but I have a hard time seeing how, exactly. Individually, the choices seem both major and minor, but taken as a whole..wow.
I made the previous comment that 2007 is already moving along at a better pace then 2006, and yet I look at the quantifiable evidence, and see very little. The fears and insecurities? Yup, still there, if locked down just a little tighter. So, I have no real proof, of any of it. And that bothers me a little, but it's not the "Oh god, my life is destroyed" that it felt 9 months ago or so.
9 months. Such a short period of time. The period of time of gestation. And who knows, maybe that's even a part of it. People, generally the religious, always talk of being born again. I always fell in line with Dennis Miller's "well forgive me for getting it right the first time", but I don't know that I follow that now. I really do feel like I'm different now, but also not different at all. And I don't like that dual feeling.
Though, it was amusing to read the text for class, talking of the learning styles of the 5 generations. Never felt I was much in common with Gen X, but yeah, reading up on it, sure as hell a good bit of it fits. It talks of the oldest generation working now (can't remember the title), then the Boomers, then the Gen X'rs, then the Millenials. And I'm missing one in there. Hmmm. I'll post the description for the Gen X'rs later.
