Ah, Musical Theatre. After last night, spent a little time with a recent "classic" (only in quotes, because your mileage DEFINITELY varies on it..most either love or hate it)..

When I was first turned to this one, several years ago, I avoided it, like the plague. Then, I finally watched it, and against all odds, I LIKED it. More than that, I fell for the story, in a big way.

I'm not sure what exactly it is that causes me to like this one as much as I do..the acting is good..Kidman is great, Ewan is Great, hell, Leguizamo, who is always hit or miss for me (excepting Romeo + Juliet) is great, too..

So, out of Moulin Rouge...2 moments that always stick out for me in it. If you've not seen it? Well, the second bit here pretty much gives away an awful lot. I'd say rent it, borrow it, or even buy it..you shouldn't be disappointed, if you're someone reading this. But, again, you never know.

And yes, this is one that proves what a Wuss boy I truly am (Handkerchiefs?). :-)

And wow, I also found this Firefly video as well. Hmmm..

So there, three bits of music, all because Spam-A-Lot had me pining for a little more. Thoughts on Moulin Rouge, Spam-A-Lot, or musicals in general? I'll admit, I never got into the "traditional" musicals much..there were a few, when I was growing up, that I liked..but, the evolution of where some of it has gone, and where it's going, has me curious on what's next. I'll admit, for as much as I avoided Moulin Rouge, there are massive parts of it that I love.

And yes, I think this is the first post ever to get my "Hopeless Romantic" icon. :-P

I was so appalled when she died at the end!! They went through all that schemeing and dreaming, just to have it blow up in their faces. It broke my heart! *Le sigh*

Oh my friend - even when I was doing theatre, this one came out and also my friends were talking about Rent (I still don't get it)... but Rouge really did a nice job and kept things quirky enough to make it work on screen. My favorite is Spectacular, Spectacular.

I could go on for hours - but after seeing this one after much proding - yes, I am a fan and have a great copy.

Guess that will be it for me, don't get me wrong live theatre is great and the Great White Way I will certainly make it there some way to see a show. But until then, hope they continue coming out with great musicals like the afor mentioned.

later,
Tony
