Last test..
Oct. 3rd, 2007 04:19 pmAlgebra...82%. And mine was one of the higher (Top 1/3, actually...maybe little higher).
Apparently, NO one did REALLY well on this last test. The jackass behind me keeps joking about why he's not doing well in this class...there are points where you just want to point out "Well, the fact that you talk through class might not have anything to do with it, so I have no idea", but no...
The girl next to me just isn't getting some of this, which is rough. I *think* I know what I'm doing, but not well enough to explain it to her..add in the fact that my brain makes leaps, and that doesn't help.
So far in the class? Average of the tests for me is an A. Homework is the same..Midterm *SHUDDER* is next Friday.
This test was so bad, for so many, that the teacher essentially gave us an easy 10 point bonus that we need to show her before the midterm, for it to be added to our previous tests. So, out of 200, I have 182...add 10, 192...
Easy? HELL no. I got out of the test Monday, and on the drive home, realized how I'd hosed 2 questions (One needed a dotted line, both needed shading), and one of the bonus questions. Fortunately, in showing my work on the problems? The ones I've missed have been half points. But, parts of this are sticking.
Now, today, we started going over exponents...like what happens when you have an exponent of 0, or division with negative exponents. Was ok with that, only got hosed in figuring scientific notation conversions later.
Not a whole lot else going on...still haven't started Firefly again...need to see this weeks' "Heroes", and was catching up on a show I didn't get to see the end of last season. Am going to see how it ends, then figure whether it's worth picking up this season..we'll see.
Also, for those interested, Corman's "Fantastic Four" is apparently showing at Key Cinemas, this Friday at 10:00. :-P

Date: 2007-10-03 09:36 pm (UTC)Hell, I'd be doing *backflips* if I got an 82 on an algebra test. I barely passed algebra in high school. Geometry was much more my speed.

Date: 2007-10-03 09:41 pm (UTC)I feel for some of the "kids" in my class, but hell, This class has me pulling hair out, and I'm passing it...I just have a hard time comprehending the others not doing even fractionally better, but then, most aren't watching the teacher, or paying attention. Feh.
Yeah, I've got this, another Algebra, then 2 stats courses to look forward to..and, everyone else has me dreading stats. :-P

Date: 2007-10-04 01:38 pm (UTC)Do not fret the midterm. If the scoring has not changed, you will do well. Wen I took it, it was not an "average". Sure, you got a score like 75% or 85% or whatever, which gave you a letter grade. But, the score was worth so many points...like 400 or so. So, 400 points for the midterm, 400 for the final, 100 points for the homework, and the last 100 points for the class participation for extra credit or whatever. So, break it down; if you needed 650 points to pass and you are anding in all your home with bonuses and are participating (or showing the prof that you are helping other students (see above), there is 300 points (did I mention the bonuses added up to 100 extra points, if you aced everything). You are halfway there. So, midterm comes up and you get 200 points out of the 400 (you failed with a 50%), you are at 500 points for the semester. So, when finals come around all you HAVE to do is get more than 150 points to pass.
NOW, all that being said, this is not a pass/fail class and doing that would not help your GPA. But, let's say you go 350 point on the midterm, then the final is no pressure (again, just to pass) and every point you get on it helps your grade.
IUPUI profs work on these types of point scales alot. I don't know if other universities do or not. But, it makes it easy to drop a test or miss an assignment when life comes about.
Scientific notation is cake, once it clicks. You will be able to do those in your sleep.
Peace,
Bear

Date: 2007-10-05 12:35 am (UTC)I'd like to get as much in this as I can, an A would be aces, since that would REALLY help my GPA...6 credit class, yeah, go figure. :-P But, we'll just have to see what happens. *nod* I DO like how they have this system in the class...as I have missed two classes so far, and it's NOT killing me. :-)
Scientific notation was pretty decent..I started working ahead on the next homework, too, and it's dealing with polynomials...so, some of that is clicking ahead of class tomorrow.
Can't believe midterm is so close...means it's just another few weeks (so it seems) til semester is over. Need to talk to adviser about next semester...or see if I can find a job and do both school and work. :-P
