And Mr. Mobo.

Thank you. :-) One of the scholarships I'm filling out asks about a vacation that was significant to the applicant, and how it contributed to changes in your life. The vacation I'm writing about is The House on the Rock.

Really, it was a toss-up between that one, and visiting Toronto that same year. Both were great vacations, both were away from what I normally did. Both were fun (yes, even the end where two of our entourage were sick on the House trip). Both did contribute to changes.

And, I wouldn't have been able to go without help and input from all parties involved.

I've posted a link to images from the House before (http://www.livejournal.com/users/per_solo/152319.html#cutid1), with a warning that it is quite image intensive.

It's place I would recommend many I know to go to, at least once. Me, I'd prefer to go back. Even with a slow, self-guided tour, it seems the entire thing went way too fast. I'm sure there are things we missed. And I would like to see it in spring, when the leaves are in full bloom.

The house itself, and that vacation, tend to render me speechless. That's not due to emotion, but due to the sheer complexity, and massive amounts of stuff collected there. There is a nautical themed room, with a large whale, crunching up a boat...an Octopus' Garden...a collection of Armor and Guns, a large area that had cars, many of which I'd never seen, accompanied by Burma Shave signs on the walls..many oriental displays. And all around, displays that did things when you put a coin (specialty coins, like arcade tokens) into them. Either via movement, or by playing music...again, lots of stuff.

Wikipedia has a page (doesn't it on everything?), and I've got two DVDs, and several postcards. Not to mention the multitude of pictures, of which the above is only a fraction.

The conventions I've helped with have done a fair bit to guide me toward my current path. But, this trip, and the Toronto trip, have also contributed a lot to the possibilities I see in this. Well, and not-so-subtle kicks and comments, at just the right time. There are several people I can thank for the path I'm on, and the realization of how much I enjoy this stuff. But, this trip is the one I'm chronicling (if I spelled that right) in the application. It made me realize that I wanted to thank the folks above, again, for that opportunity.

And the next link, the Carousel, which has the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse overlooking it. :-)

So, thank you. :-)
