I donate platelets in a few hours...primarily, to get a $25 dining dough card. :-) Yes, I'm altruistic, to a degree, but anymore, see the need to take advantage of such benefits when they come my way.

My sinuses are going ballistic. As in, my noise feels horrible. Ugh. Will not stop running...however, not sure whether to take anything for it or not...at least, not til after donating. :-P

This afternoon and evening will be fun.

I think it's awesome that you're donating, alterior motives or no. Hmmm... I didn't know they gave incentives. I must look into this.

It took a while, but the local branches in Indy do. They have a point program, now, after several years. Usually, they give, like, $10 gift card to Lowe's...or movie passes, or some such. I just lucked into going to a branch that closed, and as incentive to go to my local branch, can get a $25 dining dough, which only a few restaurants locally are participating in, but still, those are some good restaurants. :-)

Either way, I give when I can..donated whole blood at the convention a few weeks back, and am eligible for platelets now. May alternate back and forth on the two. :-)

I need to get back into donating blood. Never donated platelet before, but I'd like to if I could. I've no clue what it's like though, so make sure to let us know if it hurts or anything. XD

Platelets doesn't hurt any more than normally donating blood, just the needle is in longer. With platelets, they remove the blood, take what they need, and give it back to you. Kinda a neat, creepy process. If eligible, I'd say definitely ask your local blood bank about it, as platelets tend to be needed and few people donate. :-)

::gives a thumbs up:: I think it's the "give it back to you" bit that worries me the most. I can take them drawing blood. I don't handle injections/drips very well. But we'll see. I definitely want to do my part, with or without incentives. Incentives just make me want to look into it sooner.

*heh* Incentives do that. And, talk to them..I'm likely not describing it right, as the needle they remove it with is the same it comes back in. Not a professional, so I'm likely doing a poor job at informing. ;-)

But yeah, that's all there really is to it.

Donating platelets is a good thing if you can. They told me to never try it again. When I tried a couple of years ago I passed out big time and they gave me everything back. I guess being out cold for a few minutes is a lot worse then just going out for a few seconds or coming in and out, which I usually do when donating blood.

As for your sinuses, several folks seem to be having this issue. I don't understand why but don't let your nose get away! : )
