Just got back...
May. 23rd, 2009 01:47 pmFrom Terminator: Salvation.
OMG...WOW.
WANT to see it again...got chills, and a helluva lot of nostalgia. I think this makes up for *shudder* Terminator 3...
I've loved the series...from first viewing Terminator in 85, thanks to its premiere on HBO..to seeing T2 NUMEROUS times in the theater when it came out. And actively avoided T3 when it came out...and finally saw it, after reading the novels by SM Stirling (Which were wonderful), and T3 was indeed as poor as I'd heard.
This, I come close to saying, is better than the original film. Yeah, part is the special effects, which were phenomenal. Part is a few pleasant surprises that tie back to the original film (I tend to try to go non-spoiler when describing, so please forgive the broad strokes)...and a few things I'd have not pictured.
To me, this surpasses all the geek talk for 20 years about how the future war plays out. I hope the rumors I've heard of 2 more movies are accurate..
I want to see it again. Soon. :-)
So, if you go, talk in here and let me know what you thought, too. Geeks of the world Unite! :-P

Date: 2009-05-24 03:02 am (UTC)And yeah, the third one was pretty bad, but I think a lot of that was due to casting. Note I said "a lot", not "all". Some of the writing was pretty bad, too. But I'm sure Christian Bale made up for most of both of those, as I heard he wouldn't accept the role unless they made some changes to the script ^_^

Date: 2009-05-24 02:16 pm (UTC)Awesome. :-)
And yeah, nothing could save 3...and 3 was seen after I'd read the novels by SM Stirling, which are what T3 SHOULD have been. :-)

Date: 2009-05-24 02:24 pm (UTC)The writing was just..meh. And Arnold really shouldn't have still been playing that T-800. The books I mentioned actually had a way for Arnold to be playing, even with having aged.
Exactly. The more I see with Bale, the more impressed I am...from his role in Empire of the Sun, to American Psycho, The Prestige, Batman Begins...and this.
Of course, the other person who did great in this is Anton Yelchin (think I spelled that right) who is playing Kyle Reese...he was superb, and I wondered if he watched the original Terminator endlessly to get tics of the character down.
I can't wait to see it again. ;-)
