Jun. 3rd, 2005 08:18 amThis has just been a week...FUGLY!
Found out that a friend who is helping with the convention (Playing an integral part, really), has had some big "Real life" crap going on...I'm kinda tired of this for this year. I want all the stresses on all my friends who do this really thankless job to let up. I want a better way to say "thank you" to all of them..and actually acknowledging their hard work with a simple "Thank you" can do a bit for that..
Yes, the real life stuff happening to those of us who put the convention on can let up for us anytime. We've had people in the hospital, massive job changes, family members getting REALLY sick, pet calamities...ALL sorts of stuff. And, I know stuff happens every year, but this one just seems so much more...BIG, with the sheer number of people all this stuff is happening to.
We're still having a convention, and with the guests I have coming in, we're going to have a GREAT convention. But, the low numbers (it seemed low) at Marcon have me a little rattled. This economy (see my posts on Job Loss) isn't doing ANYONE, except for Bush and his buddies, any favors...and, fun little things like, oh, escaping from reality into a convention, is one of the first things cut...Trips...Gas Prices are still insane...and so that makes people not really want to travel much...my trip to Marcon cost me $40 in gas...maybe a little less. :-)
I'm tired. Go figure...a month seems SOOOOOOO Far away, and yet terrifyingly close. I still know that we can all do it, but the outside stressors on my friends and myself can let up a little, anytime now. :-)
