Nov. 9th, 2005 12:29 amOk...so, made it to the airport...the flights were really interesting.
Got to Houston, then flew to Brownsville. Got to Brownsville, got the rental car, and directions to the Holiday Inn Express.
From this point, it gets surreal...Drove to where the directions said...and nothing. Called, got a somewhat direction, adn went...and drove, and circled, and drove some more, and circled some more. Got a call from my Emplyer..and finally got to the Hotel.
They policy of the hotel was that the needed a credit card for the room charge...which was supposed to have been faxed...no paperwork. So, I got to sit and chat with the guy, my employer, who needed to get HIS boss as well, who called, and from this end of the conversation,w as quite irritated...and the Desk Guy is just doing his job, following the rules, so, after calling a coworker of his, found out that they HAD gotten the fax, but she hadn't put it into the log...so, he got to apologize to someone irate over the phone, apologized numerous times to me (I kept telling him it was unnecessary...*I* knew there wasn't much he could do), and finally, got the room key. Am now in the business center, printing out the documentation I need to know what I"m supposed to do tomorrow for this job...need to read that a little tonite, wake up EARLY tomorrow...if I can, I want to get in a little more than the 5 hours or so that currently is lined up for me...because, if I'm to make my flight, I need to be at the airport by 3:00...for a 4:30 flight.
Yes, this is a chaotic life...I'm not complaining, as it's quite different than my normal routine...things could be MUCH more chaotic. :-P
Will update tomorrow if I can...elsewise, who knows when...probably LATE tomorrow night, when I get home.
Hard to believe that, in 24 hours, I'll be home...I'm kinda used to things lasting longer...and, monetary wise, I have a hard time seeing a job done in 6 hours that anyone couldn't do...case in point, I know of a couple of techs in TExas that are looking for work..and looking for Temp Gigs or anything of the sort...why shouldn't THEY be tapped, if the market is bad, and it ain't cheap to fly a tech in from Indiana?
Yeah, I'll admit, that raised a semi-red flag (NOT quite a red flag..let's say an Orange flag)...
Ah well...not a lot I can do. I'm here now, will do the best job I can under the circumstances, and go from there.

Date: 2005-11-11 02:30 am (UTC)I twas a good trip, overall...just would have liked to have left them with more than a "Well, someone else will be coming to fix this tomorrow"...I know that my people weren't happy with as much time as I spent on Standby..although, they charge more for that...still, would have liked to have left the client a little better off.
