Holiday Wishes
Nov. 22nd, 2005 11:14 amStep One
- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you. [Note: Your home address is not required!]
- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post (it'll be public) so that the holiday joy will spread.
Step Two
- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:
- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.
You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.
There are no guarantees with this project, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.
Community Rules
1. Post your wishlist once, and only once!
2. Limit your wishlist to 10 items.
3. Do not post to announce that you've updated your list. It's bad form to make additions if some of your wishes have already been granted. This includes linking back to your wishlists in thank you's and other posts. Once you have posted your wishlist in the community please give others a chance and don't post it again.
4. If you make changes to your list (i.e. crossing off items that you've recieved, or changing your contact information), edit your original post.
5. This community is now moderated, so you may have to wait a bit for your wishlist to appear.
6. There is no need to include the steps of the meme in your wishlist post if it is on the community, so feel free to save the rest of us a little space :)
Ok, on to what I'd like this year. Yup, there's some actual "Real World" stuff in here, but there's also some wishes (Unsubstantial things) and other things.
1. Spooks Soundtrack. Basically, the soundtrack for the series "Spooks", known over here as MI-5. More info on the soundtrack can be found at the following link. No need to actually ship the CD from somewhere, unless you happen to live in UK, and want to do such. I'd be happy if someone knew somewhere local I could get it, or some other plan. http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00009V8X4/203-3805214-2545528
2. Mix CDs. I participated in a big group project last year of sending a bunch of these out, and it was a lot of fun to try to put a bunch of music I liked onto a CD for others, and I'm always curious at what music pulls people.
3. This one will be impossible. :-P But it's still fun to put down. I want an Omni. No, it wouldn't have to work. Over the years, I've had a few people tell me they knew how to make one easier/cheaper than the website at the end of THIS entry, but nothing has ever come of it, and, well, I think it'd be a neat prop to own. Very few people would even know what it is, but most of my friends would. Yes, my friends are geeks, just like me. http://www.replicaprops.com/omni.htm
4. Paid LJ time. Phone posting was fun, the Icons I used were fun, and are just kinda sitting, and I'll admit, I'm bored at the three I currently am stuck using. And, well, with the whole "Unemployment" and "About to be a student" thing, money is getting rough.
5. Contact a friend of yours that you haven't in at least a year. Someone that you either haven't gotten a chance to, or time has eluded you, or whatever has caused a distance where you've managed to not know what is going on in their life. (Ex's Do NOT count for this, unless you lost contact while on good speaking terms with them...those rarities).
6. I'm hoping this will somehow work out after Christmas, but ya never know, so it's on my list here. A 16X DVD +/- RW DL burner. I've got an 8X, and am thinking of donating that to my sister (or parents, however that ends up going). I keep hearing rumor of Black Friday sales, but again, I can't talk myself into doing that..Now, don't get me wrong, if I were able to afford such this year, I would be up at 7:00 at Staples, Circuit City, or whoever is going to sell them. I've been purposefully keeping away from the Black Friday ads so they don't irritate me.
7. Look at a charity, and see if donating your time to them, or your dollars, would actually help them. We hear horror stories of misappropriation with the Katrina funds all the time, but other charities (like the ones we picked for Incon this year) are actually worth something, and at least worth you looking into.
8. If you have a book around on surviving college (Or something silly, you know, like the Ramen Cookbook, or something else), that would be loverly.
9. And, part of my fun with doing these is the fact that there is no way for some of these to be done...take the following, American Gods Ltd. Ed. HC, at http://www.neilgaiman.net/books.php?show=4 :-) I love the book, I love the fact that it's done in such a unique way, with added words. ONE day...
10. Peace of mind. Yeah, people have it a LOT worse than I do right now. The chaotic twists and turns that my life is flying through..some people would beat me in order to have it quite that easy, but moreso than I've ever been before, the future is just completely unpredictable right now, so, in order to give me a bit of peace of mind, comment here, and let me know something good in life. Something that gives you hope, faith that life may be twisty, but the good is there. Everywhere I look in the news and such, all that is out there is bad, so, look at your life, and tell me what makes you happy and feelin' safe and secure.
Enjoy! Post this if you want, check out Holiday Wishes community, and see if there are any wishes you can grant (Hell, I've got a Twin Peaks book I don't need anymore, and someone requested it, so I'm gonna try to send it), and see if the spirit of giving helps.
