RIP Coupling
Oct. 16th, 2003 10:16 amWell, in a SURPRISE announcement yesterday, NBC has said that it is yanking the new show "Coupling" for the next couple of weeks.
The TRULY funny part is that the episode that is airing tonite looks to have been an original episode, and not a word for word repeat of the first three episodes of the British series.
I'm kind of sad to see it go...the writing for those three episodes was great, but that's because the original BBC writing was great...I'm going to be curious for a long time as to just what the show would have been like with its own scripts...still, the worst part was the casting, and some of the changes they made to appeal to American Audiences (well, ok, some american audiences wouldn't have got the Brit references had they left them in) just didn't make sense...but oh well.
The funniest part of the whole ordeal? Apparently NBC is going to put the show "Whoopi" on in that time slot...in the hopes that the show will not appear as horrid on a different night, and if it follows Friends. Fabulous...I heard Whoopi was worse than Coupling, so of course, they replace the one with the other. Whatever.

Date: 2003-10-16 10:15 am (UTC)Of course, the other side is that, I believe it was 37th in Ratings...so, it wasn't a hit right out of the gate, and it's dead. No chance to hit its own stride...no chance to break away from the BBC stories. *shrug and sigh*
Which, makes it really funny...I KNEW it didn't stand a chance, and I really think part of that is my cynicism of new shows on any network...hell, Jake 2.0 isn't getting good reviews, but, for any of these shows, it's the first freakin' season...there have been very few shows that turned into GREAT shows that were hits right out of hte gate, and had good first seasons...Hell, Babylon 5 wasn't that great a first season...but the ones after that were superb. X-Files wasn't a great one for a first season, but Second season is where they started trying to tie a lot more together than they had in first..
I'm rambling. :-)
