Mar. 6th, 2006 08:03 amYour top 5....
Today, in honor of last night's Academy Awards...you job, should you choose to accept it, is to list your top 5 "Best Picture" Academy Award Winners...
Yes, this took me a little research to see which ones had actually won...fortunately, there's a handy little database at http://awardsdatabase.oscars.org/ampas_awards/DisplayMain.jsp?curTime=1141651324365
In no uncertain order...
1. The French Connection
2. The Godfather
3. The Silence of the Lambs
4. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
5. Oliver!
That was actually much harder than I'd have thought...some were like "Oh, that wasn't THAT good a movie..."
I've seen all the above, though I will admit to having only see pieces of "The French Connection" on AMC...
And, for further note...let's go with my top 5 "They WEre Robbed" on the Academy Awards.
1. The Conversation (Lost to Godfather Part II)
2. The Big Chill (Lost to Terms of Endearment)
3. Awakenings (Lost to Dances with Wolves)
4. The Shawshank Redemption (Lost to Forrest Gump)
5. Saving Private Ryan (Lost to Shakespeare in Love)
I had line for why I love some of these, why I thought some should win to others, but things are a might bit hectic on this Monday morning...so, chat away, have fun..agree with my picks? Disagree? Thoughts? :-P

Date: 2006-03-07 01:18 pm (UTC)My problem, especially in the last several years, is that I've not seen many lately...I think that points to a problem. Dad asked if I'd seen any of the contenders this year, and I had to say no...hmmm...

Date: 2006-03-06 09:12 pm (UTC)I tried sticking with mostly movies I knew (haven't seen Annie Hall), and I don't remember Kramer Vs. Kramer at all...well, barely.
Have a hard time wtih My Fair Lady VS Dr. Strangelove..both are good movies for entirely different reasons...good picks, though.

Date: 2006-03-06 09:26 pm (UTC)pick Patton over most the movies listed. Bit M*A*S*H was brilliant
and innovative were as Patton was a W.W.II biography. Same type of
thing for My Fair Lady and DR. S. And about your list I would
need a coin toss on The Shawshank Redemption and Forrest Gump
again both are much better than some of the winners of other years.
And as for K vs K I had to sit through it on a date. Any other movie
would have been better.
