It's good to keep in mind that it's the insight you get from the data that's important, but in some companies, those insights are pretty obvious. I'm not sure I know "the difference between an information system and computer software."
Also, systems design IS an art form. By his definition, it can be both a science and an art form (he listed music as an example of a science). And it does have elements of both. I think that denying the creative finesse it takes to design a really good system turns our job into drudgery. But I also agree that using the "art form" as a blanket excuse for not accepting rules is bad.

Date: 2006-09-05 10:55 pm (UTC)And, on a totally unrelated note, am watching B5 Season 3, borrowed. Z'Ha'Dum. This would be the first time I've seen the episode, crystal clear, in a LONG time. Can't wait for the goosebumps to hit in 25 minutes or so. :-P

Date: 2006-09-05 11:07 pm (UTC)And I was wrong about when the goosebumps started. The Garibaldi/Sheridan exchange.
And wow, eyes have not teared up over so much angsty stuff recently, but watching the message from Sheridan to Delenn. Damn. :-P
