Wow. That's just a bit bitter, actually.

I agree with most of what he's saying. Though I think he's getting pretty arcane with, "The company runs on data." It's good to keep in mind that it's the insight you get from the data that's important, but in some companies, those insights are pretty obvious. I'm not sure I know "the difference between an information system and computer software."

Also, systems design IS an art form. By his definition, it can be both a science and an art form (he listed music as an example of a science). And it does have elements of both. I think that denying the creative finesse it takes to design a really good system turns our job into drudgery. But I also agree that using the "art form" as a blanket excuse for not accepting rules is bad.

There were a few, and I can't remember off the top of my head which ones, that jumped out at me as universal truths, and then others that I'll admit I had no clue on.

Heh. There were several that rang absolutely, totally right. The guy has a lot of insight. But for some reason, I always want to point out the ones I think are wrong. Maybe because that seems less obvious :).

And, on a totally unrelated note, am watching B5 Season 3, borrowed. Z'Ha'Dum. This would be the first time I've seen the episode, crystal clear, in a LONG time. Can't wait for the goosebumps to hit in 25 minutes or so. :-P

Woo! We just loaned Season 2 to a friend. I really want to sit down and watch the whole thing from start to finish. But, wow, what time committment....

*nod* My season 1 is loaned out. I saw that the seasons went down in price, on Amazon. That is very tempting.

And I was wrong about when the goosebumps started. The Garibaldi/Sheridan exchange.

And wow, eyes have not teared up over so much angsty stuff recently, but watching the message from Sheridan to Delenn. Damn. :-P
