Interesting week.
Nov. 16th, 2006 01:10 pmSo, lunch the day before yesterday was with oftenrebuked, then lunch yesterday was with Silver Bat (non LJ friend).
He made an interesting comment about future projects he is working on. Wants to go in, the both of us, on a few. His comment at one point was "I'll need you, as once I piss people off, I'll need you to help smooth things over". His philosophy has always been of the "Why play games, better to be direct", which is a familiar thought frame I'm used to. Never worry about pissing people off, they'll appreciate you being direct.
Remember that thought frame, it comes up again here in a little bit.
So, last night was hanging out with Druidbear after work. Went to a class that he's been saying I need to get into for a while. "Theories of personality". Met the instructor (after dinner with Bear, which was amusing as we were talking of ovecoming the way our brain thinks. That rarely are things "either/or", but more normally a multitude of smaller currents within a thought process.
Got to the class, met a lot of neat people, and the instructor of the class. VERY intense gentleman, who made an early comment of "Ok, so who are you? At least, what you're willing to tell me." *heh* Always a neat thing to ponder, just what we're willing to show of ourselves, to whom, based on what time.
The class discussion that evening was talking of constructs, a theory by George Kelley. Personal constructs, the things we wrap ourselves up in, who we are, core constructs, that whole system. #9 and #4 and #7 particularly jumped out.

The amusing part is, Bear and I discussed at least 1/2 to 1/3 of those, without even knowing what the class discussion was, at dinner. Take a look at the link. Opinions on it are invited.
At one point, I was talking to the teacher about the same conversation I'd had with Silver Bat, including the wording of being direct, as opposed to working with people. he replied back with a "That sounds like a great rationalization".
Which of course caused me to pause.
So, this will likely be a class I take in the future. How FAR in the future, I don't know yet. I do know that I added a book used in the class to my wishlist. :-)
After that, came home, did my Spanish quiz, and chatted online for a bit. I'm planning a vacation for the future, will see when/how I'm able to pull that off. The good with it? Visiting a friend, and finally going to an In-N-Out burger place, something recommended to me ages ago.
Hope the day is well for all.
