Ok, so apparently I've been tasked (not really tasked, requested, since I'm a fan) with writing Milholland, and seeing if he can make the convention in July.
The good? The con offers what he requests for conventions. Free admission to the con,for him and a guest. A room at the hotel during the convention. And travel to/from. Either flight arrangements, or gas, if he's insane enough to drive. This would make him an artist GOH (Guest of Honor).
In addition to a table in the main hallway for him to sell his stuff.
Now, the downside?
I have no idea how to contact him. I know the convention sent him an e-mail, but given the sheer volume of mails he no doubt receives, I'D be surprised if he got it and could respond to it.
I don't have the in with him that others do. Any suggestions on an alternate e-mail, or someone to act as a go-between? Or, even just other suggestions?
Thanks.

Date: 2006-12-07 12:22 am (UTC)All caps? He won't get annoyed and pummel us with wit? :-P
Nah he won't pummel too badly
Date: 2006-12-07 02:57 am (UTC)I left him voicemail letting him know you're looking and also the webpage.
And it ain't wit. It's bitterness (^_^)
Re: Nah he won't pummel too badly
Date: 2006-12-07 03:05 am (UTC)I will state that Aaron Williams (of Nodwick fame, guest at the 2005 convention) was surprised at the above offer. He'd been used to footing the bill for any convention he had attended, and was happy to be treated as a guest should.
Thank you. Speaking as a former chair of this convention, this means a lot. The very worst that happens in this? We make the offer, and he either refuses, or can't make it.
Wit, Bitterness. They can equal the same hilarity at times. :-) There's a reason I've been reading the strip as long as I have.
Excellent

Date: 2006-12-07 12:20 am (UTC)Actually, I hit the website. July 6-8th. George RR Martin is the author guest. Will check your other comments, and reply as I can.
That site is http://www.inconjunction.org
Thanks, btw. :-)
Re: I'm on it - provided
Date: 2006-12-11 04:27 am (UTC)Once we gauge he is free, and that the items I stated above works for him? We "word" up a contract, stating what he gets, and what we request (typically a panel a day type thing, that he puts us on his "appearance" page, things like that), sign it so that both interests and parties are protected, and then at that point, I find out if the convention wants me to continue as his liason, if he feels I'm the right person to be the liason between himself and the con, and make sure that all parties are on the same page.
For more background on me, I'm a big believer (as evidenced by my own guests in 2005) in the philosophy that the Guests have as much fun as the attendees. This is an industry/group built on relationships, and good relationships. If he hits a point of discomfort, then he should be able to, and have the trust to, relay that to me, and allow me to raise hell as needed so that he becomes happy and comfortable.
:-) I hope this answers a few more questions that may have come up. As before, if you prefer to take further questions offline, the e-mail addy is per_solo@yahoo.com
And thanks again for acting as initial contact for us. I understand everyone right now is kinda busy, but I can't wait to take a positive (or negative, if it's just not meant to be this time) response back to the conchair.
I don't mean to spam but

If Randy has not gotten in touch with you
Date: 2006-12-13 12:34 pm (UTC)Chances are he can't find yours after my voicemail to him. So give him a write there.
Re: If Randy has not gotten in touch with you
Date: 2006-12-13 01:28 pm (UTC)Thank you. I saw that last night, immediately e-mailed, and added in that I'd been going through you at first, but was more than happy to go through the newly created proper channel. :-) Have already swapped info with Michael, so hopes are high.
Penny and Aggie hate mail? What have I missed?
Thanks again. :-)
