For those who don't know, Richard Biggs, who was most well known (in my circle, at least) as Dr. Franklin on Babylon 5, passed away yesterday.

I only got to meet him once, but it was a hell of a meeting. He was coming in for Inconjunction in 2001, and came in on Wednesday or Thursday, so that he could go to Logansport, and play a minor role in "Starship II". I was the lucky one to drive him up North...I cannot remember how long the drive was, just that he, myself, and Samantha Thompson were in the car together.

As we rode, it was one of the neatest things, for me as an actor, to watch him memorize his lines...I can only hope to be the type of professional that he was. He handed his script to Samantha, and had her read the cues (It would have been difficult for me to help with that, as I was driving), and each time, he tried a different inflection, until he found the one that worked best for him. We talked about his life a bit, about Indiana a bit, and had a good ride...we stopped at one point for Donuts, and a coke (Donuts for him, coke for me), and he covered it. When we got to the shoot, I stayed for a couple of hours, just watching him do the scene several times, and saw him talking to the cast and crew of Starship. I only caught a very small part of the "Biggs and Carter Experience", which is basically an actors workship, at Incon that year...and now really regret having missed it for my other obligations.

He will be missed...now I am popping in a few episodes of Babylon 5...

And, a quote that Jeff Thompson put up on the Inconjunction website when we announced the news.

"The theory is: if you are separated from yourself, you start walking and you keep walking until you meet yourself. Then you sit down and have a long talk. You talk about everything that you've learned, everything that you've felt. And you talk until you run out of words. Now, that's vital, because the real important things can't be said. And then, if you are lucky, you look up and there's just you, and you can go home." -- Dr. Franklin (Richard Biggs) in the Babylon 5 episode, "Walkabout"

(A moment of Silence) I am sorry to hear that he passed; hopefully, he is a much better place.
