Ok. So, I've been also working on upgrading my phone. Checked to make sure it was eligible (I had to have the initial phone replaced, so there was a question there), and it's eligible. Doesn't ping against the eligibility of the friends whose plan I'm on, as it is by the phone itself. 22 months, which I think I've just hit (got the first phone in March of 2005, yes, it's been that long). However, last night, they didn't have the model that sounded like what I wanted, and today, their computers were going through an upgrade.

Well, I've got just a few ideas on what I want. I'd like to be able to put my own ringtones on the phones (Via USB of course), and Bluetooth headsets look good to me, for reasons other than the "Cyberman" look that Dr. Who has made attractive. :-P

I'm looking at the Razr phones. The apparent fragility of those give me pause, though I've been told that they actually are a very good, sturdy phone. So, am investigating how much an upgrade price on one would be. Have been told two different ideas, by two different T-Mobile places. EVENTUALLY, the idea is to go on my own plan, but that expense, frankly, scares me right now.

So, does anyone have a recommendation or idea on a good phone that will do what I want? The hands (and wire-free) headset is appealing, as is the idea of customized ringtones that I can create, then put on the phone itself. Battery Life is a good thing, as I seem to have minor issues with battery life on both of the previous models of cell phone (The first one, which I can't remember what it was, and the current motorola V180).

Heh. The husband and I were looking at upgrading our phones yesterday. Though we may not do it for a little while still. He'll probably get the new Treo 750 that should be coming out soon and I might get a Razr. I won't make a definite decision until we go into the store and I hold the phone though. (Not that it would matter too much, but we're on Sprint so I'm not sure what phones T-Mobile supports.)

I don't know if price factors into it but the Treo is hella expensive. We're talking like $600 or something. With our plan, there's an upgrading discount and a rebate thing so it would end up only costing us like $300 or something. The Treo is a Palm phone, not a regular cell phone.

Hold that thought. My father bought my mother a Chocolate for Xmas to replace her RAZR (no, I don't understand either) when her contract with whoever they had expired. Depending on how much one would end up costing you and what provider they used before switching to Verizon, I know they want to get rid of it and might be able to get it for you on the relatively cheap.

Transferring ring tones via USB isn't as common as you might think it would be. There are, however, websites where you can send files to your phone via SMS for free.

Because of all the things phones DO these days, battery life will always seem shorter. Back when I had an old Nokia I could go a week without charging it; now it's an everyday affair (have a Samsung A900). I do work in a large building that makes it go out of service a lot though, and searching for service will sap a battery REALLY damn fast.

Just the fact that you'd have the phone flipped open for shorter periods of time means yes to a degree. :P

Hers was an older model; if you can get a brand new-and-improved model for $49 I'd say go for that. $49 is usually with a contract though; I'd make damn certain that's not what they meant.

Tony & I just got new phones through Cingular; we got Sony Ericsson phones. I got a W300i & he got a W810i. They have the USB transfer & are Bluetooth enabled. These particular phones also work as a Walkman, with FM access. :)

I've heard bad things about the fragility of the Razr from someone who sells cellphones, but I don't have personal experience.

The battery life on ours seems to be pretty good; it's supposed to be 16 or so hours idle & 8-9 talking IIRC.

Have fun deciding.
