Just got back from learning how to make a Wand (You know, the type in the Harry Potter movies).
Made a custom...it looks pretty good, for a first wand. 13 inches, made of Oak..which I learned is harder to cut. My friend Mark has a couple of lathes..they are VERY nice for this type of work...we'll see how I do on the second wand I make.
Needed this for a "pointer" for our Whose Line game...we're doing the Story Time game..or Biography, as I think it was called in the Vegas show.
Basically, the players of hte game, and others, are telling the biography of a made up person...and I'll point at one person, and then, switch to another person where they have to pick up the story...very fun.
Now, to fill in part of the wand with wood putty, and then either Varnish and wax it, or just wax it, and leave the original look of it...I'm proud. Yeah, it can be better..but, it's my first "prop". Hmmm...I sense a potential EXPENSIVE hobby...we'll see. :-) If I can put pics of it up, I will.
