Ah, there's something to be said for entering information while listening to "Jesus Christ Superstar".

I think it's the only musical I've seen more than 3 times..and, if I think about it, I'm approaching 8 times, live, and I don't know how many on DVD, VHS, or other. I've probably lost track of how many times I've listened to it, and can say that I have 4 different versions of it on varied audio media. The original Broadway, the more recent (2002?) version, and one "odd" version. I actually do not own the 1973 movie, in any format.

I think my favorite version is that 2002 version. And, it took a long time to grow on me. I didn't want to like that one at first.

Mmm...wonder if there's a way to get others to see this version. :-P Dunno how much of it I can find, but we'll try to find a few songs for ya.

(and yes, in the above, that's Drop Dead Fred as Herod, and who would have been Peeves in the Harry Potter flicks)

The 1973 "Superstar" has been a fixture in my house for years...we watch it every Easter. I own the DVD, the soundtrack, the songbook, know every song by heart, and I kicked myself in the butt for not catching the tour that turned out to be Carl Anderson's (Judas) last before he died. He owned that role. I didn't like the 2000 version at all...I kinda watched that like a dog listens to a high pitched whistle...head cocked, puzzled look on my face. Give me '73!! :-)

I did like 73...but, one of the things that kept coming to me after seeing it live many times (and, I'm trying to remember if I saw Anderson do it live..I think I did, I know I saw Ted once), the thing I remember well was how the touring group changed, evolved, and other such.

The first time I saw 2000, I came in halfway through, and HATED it. I thought Judas was too whiny, and a host of other issues. However, I later watched, and it grew on me, somehow.

I think that's what I like that endures with it, how it changes. I've got the original Broadway (AWESOME), This one, and..Indigo Girls? I think they also did a version, that is a bit different.

I know my father has said that the original is the only album he's worn out, multiple times, until it came out on CD.

Well....I can say that I don't HATE Superstar. But I don't particularly like it either. Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is definitely worse than Superstar.....but Weber has definitely had better shows than Superstar. I think I would give my left arm to see Starlight Express.

I, too, have never seen those. I find I have a very "Love/Hate" relationship with Weber. Overall, I find him bad, but there are some things of his I like quite a bit.

Starlight Express is a musical about trains. The entire cast is on roller skates. ^_^

Heehee...there are some pretty good songs in Starlight, I just wasn't able to find any good video of them. Hm. I will try to track down the main song of the show. I used to have it but it was a cassette and well...yeah, that died a long time ago from me listening to it too much.

And besides, roller skates! I want to see a play on skates!
