Aug. 15th, 2007 12:30 pmWow.
That was the easiest registration line I've ever been in.
Entered, 15 minutes later, was out with my badge. Neat!
They are marking the badges, upon bag pickup this year, so it looks like the chances for people to pick up multiple bags is at least lesser this year.
Walked around for a few, saw various stages of setup. Would have LOVED to have gotten in and seen how the exhibit hall was being set up, but ah well. Looked for a few people, didn't find them, so left and went to school to pick up books. Talked to a few teachers, and my internship adviser. Need to get the Gencon volunteer coordinators name, as it sounds like there are NO other students working at Gencon this year.
Then again, since some of the students in EM consider us "freaks", that isn't a real surprise. But, it's something I need to get info back to the dept., so that students do have options for their internships.
Talked to one teacher, who asked questions about the setup, the tear down..I told her one of my goals was to be in the Exhibit Hall at tear down this year, as Mobo, Moon, and Kack had said it was neat as hell to watch that happen QUICKLY last year.
Got my books, and came home. Need to call Smirk and Dagger in a little while, make sure we're on target, for time tonight, so the group of us Instigators can play the new game, and plot out the weekend. This is going to be massive amounts of fun. I've got cards for Cardhalla, am doing laundry now, and trying to pack. I'm planning on commuting each day, but I don't know. If I find crash space there, that should make it easier. Then again, I have no idea what the parking rate for leaving my car that long in the parking garage would be, either.
Either way, this is gonna be a great weekend. Almost tempted to make a Titanic like proclamation regarding it. :-P

Date: 2007-08-15 04:59 pm (UTC)Really? Part may be that folks aren't there yet..part may be that they had ALL the booths manned, questions were asked of the right people..I'll keep fingers crossed.

Date: 2007-08-15 05:09 pm (UTC)I understand that. I have a few additional funds, but not a whole lot. Way I figure, this is helping my education.
The Big Chill had one of my favorite lines ever...
Michael: I don't know anyone who could get through the day without two or three juicy rationalizations. They're more important than sex.
Sam Weber: Ah, come on. Nothing's more important than sex.
Michael: Oh yeah? Ever gone a week without a rationalization?

Date: 2007-08-15 05:06 pm (UTC)I'm counting down the hours until I'm there (five and a half!!!)
Exhibit hall tear-down is, indeed, a sight to behold. Those guys are ready to be Out Of There, the moment the doors close behind the participants. I wasn't even finished packing up our booth, when they had the forklifts rolling up the carpets from underneath me!
As for people in EM considering "us" freaks... seriously, what is their issue? It's a convention with fifty thousand people!!! Who cares if it's geekery or gadgetry?
Crazy people and their mixed-up priorities. (;
