So, I am sitting here, working on a computer, and listening to music in the background...

I have a lot of MP3s of movie soundtracks, as that has always been my main thing...certain soundtracks can shove me back into the movie the soundtrack is of...

So, I'm listening to the track from Watership Down...the end battle, the Music swells, and you can tell exactly, scene for scene, what is going on in the movie..well, I can. And, I hear a quote in the back of my head from said movie. I can't remember the exact quote, as I'm now second guessing myself, but the quote is to the degree of "You cowards..come back. It's only a dog!".

An interesting WD site... http://members.tripod.com/wdown/

And, another fun quote. "General Woundwort's body was never found. It could be that he still lives his fierce life somewhere else, but from that day on, mother rabbits would tell their kittens that if they did not do as they were told, the General would get them. Such was Woundwort's monument, and perhaps it would not have displeased him."

I was always freaked, before, because that movie is in the CHILDREN'S section...I saw that movie when I was 8...and think it may have warped me quite a bit. I'm not the only one..there are a lot of us who saw that movie when we were impressionable kids, and yet seeing all the violence in that movie didn't cause us to go out and start killing rabbits...there's an interesting thought. Did that movie cause us to have a better grasp of life?

Just a couple of random thoughts...I need to go see if the Soundtrack is legitimately available...years ago, I found someone I had a few things in common with, who lived in North Carolina, who had the soundtrack via MP3, via Napster...this was RIGHT AFTER the Music Industry had stopped making the soundtrack available...the only copies you could find were $30 on Ebay, or about the same by importing it from England, or Germany, or somewhere else. And, well, as much as I love the music, if I have a hard time paying $17.99 for an album, then there is no way I'd pay $30...but, that means that, much like the Tron soundtrack, if it came out reasonably priced, I'd buy it.

And, if you've never seen Watership Down (or have only read the book), you should rent it sometime...it is worth the watch...and, in my opinion, adapts the book rather well.

Watership Down!

You can get the soundtrack vinyl LP quite easily on eBay UK - I got my copy for about £10 a while ago... but it does seem to be much rarer outside Europe, and the CD is a different matter entirely - I think the last one I saw, on the US site, went for well over $50.

the quote is to the degree of "You cowards..come back. It's only a dog!"

It's: "Come back, you fools! Come back and fight! Dogs aren't dangerous!"

that movie is in the CHILDREN'S section

Ah well, I suppose it is U-rated (in Britain, anyway - apparently it was bumped up to a PG in the US), and U-rated cartoons tend to end up there. The same happens to the book, though - I was in Borders the other day, and they had one copy in the adult section, but 16 in the children's dept!

it is worth the watch...and, in my opinion, adapts the book rather well.

Yes, I agree - the book is the masterpiece, but the Nepenthe film really isn't a bad stab at a very tricky adaptation. Other than the pointless inclusion of Violet, and the ridiculous Blackavar suicide attack on Woundwort, there's not too much to find fault with.

As for WD websites...

The Watership Down Webring (http://www.watershipdown.org.uk)

Enjoy. =:)

(Oh, and I got here via Google, on the offchance that you're remotely interested. =:P )
