Say goodbye to old friend..
Nov. 7th, 2004 09:49 pmMy waterbed is now dead. I'm keeping the frame, but switching to a conventional mattress.
Hole developed in the waterbed, in a crease...tried patching it, it still leaked..tried putting a bigger patch over, and it leaked more. Then, tried to remove the patch to repatch...and, well, anyone who has owned a waterbed will tell you that's a big, BIG mistake. It's now been draining for several hours, and I'm going to sleep on the couch tonite.
Found out the other night that the couch sleeps rather comfortably...just need a better blanket out here..with the window right behind the couch, it did make sleeping..a little cold. But now that blanket is dry, so I can actually sleep with it.
Wow...mattresses are expensive. More than I'd have imagined. Of course, I've just done a little research.
Wow...JC Penney has a bit better prices..more investigation. Ugh.
Well, VCR is now recording "Huff", and it's time for bed...tho, I may hang out just a little longer, for the bed to finish draining..what a Pain...dunno that I'll ever go back to a waterbed again. Of course, this bed and mattress (waterbed, that is) has survived 3 moves, if not 4, so I probably managed to kill its Baffles in one of those moves. :-)
More updates later.

Date: 2004-11-07 08:47 pm (UTC)Are you looking for just a mattress or a mattress and box springs? I'm unclear, since you said you're keeping the frame. Seems like you'd only be able to fit a mattress in there, if I understand the structure properly. I got my old full size set for $150 apiece, and it served me well. I think I went to a mattress warehouse for that, but I swear I don't remember where anymore....

Date: 2004-11-08 05:24 am (UTC)I'm just looking for a mattress, and I'm amazed at what's out there. I want one that is comfortable, but I don't plan on buying one again for a VERY long time...like, say, almost 20 years. :-)
I'm actually looking at a Serta from Penneys, and a Spring Air PostureComfort from Today's Bedroom One.
And, well, as I'm keeping the waterbed frame, that's still pretty good...of course, now I have to get the rest of the water out of the bed, and get the liner out...dunno who the manufacturer of the liner was, but boy has it done its job.
