The beginning is always the hardest...

At last...

I've been working on keeping up with school, and doing ok on that, for the most part.

I also took on the task of writing this year's play for InCon...as I felt I had a decent hook, a decent plot, and some other fun things.

Writing does not come easy to me. I've always been more the "Idea" person. SO, I took this on to kinda prod myself out of my normal way of doing things, and viewing things.

Well, the play is coming along slowly. I have so much information in my head, that it makes narrowing down concepts and directions a little rough.

But, I finally have gotten more going than "ideas written on a page", and structure is coming along. I still feel I'm missing a few things, but that's because I'm at the beginning. I debated writing things out of sequence, to see if that helped, and haven't done that yet. I may well do a bit of that this weekend. But, it is beginning to flow a little easier.

For that, I'm happy.

On a side note, does anyone know of any "Harry" puns? I've got the obligatory "Balzac", but am wanting a few others. :) Thanks.

Yeah, writing is hard, and plotting is hard. FWIW, what works for me is outlining. I write out the scenes at a really high level: Where it happens, who is there, and whatever important thing(s) is(are) supposed to happen. Then I can get an idea of the flow of the plot, and it helps to start writing a scene when I know what I'm trying to accomplish.

Of course, that means Stephen King thinks I'm a degenerate writer of boring, mechanical stories. But what the hell :).

Funny - I was singing "At last" as I logged onto LJ, because on yahoo news they were talking about beyonce covering the song and etta james being all up in arms about it, and then the first post on my friends list starts with "at last..." as i'm belting the words.

i thought it was funny.
