When Opportunity Knocks...

per_soloI've got another opportunity in front of me. And I'm trying to figure out how to do such.
There are a few "BIG" shows in events...Dragoncon is one, though I've not been to it yet. Gencon is another, and I've been to it many times. GAMA is the big Gaming Trade Show, and it fell into my lap this year, and was pretty damned cool. Flight covered, room and board.
Well, another opportunity has presented. I may be able to go and work at the San Diego Comic Con, paid, and with an exhibitor badge. Lots of chance to network in my field, and see a show that I so far have not been able to see (as it is expensive to fly out and get a room...they book quickly at this show). No idea on pay rate as of this moment, though that would help defray cost.
The downside...getting to the show, and rooming and food, would be up to me. And given that it's summer, when money is horribly tight anyways, and loans and money for fall won't kick in til EARLY August, at the earliest, makes this problematic.
I'd LOVE to go, but right now, am trying to make the numbers and timing work, as I'm still in summer session for classes.
Was told recently that a way to know you are on the right path, career-wise, is that opportunities present themselves. Given that opportunities have been presenting themselves, I agree with that. In a worst case, I can't afford to go and will have to pass...this year.
Plan on talking to a few people to see if I can work some miracles...definitely plan on asking one of my advisers if she has advice. :-) Would be nice and helpful. And again, if it doesn't happen, it's just how it works sometimes.
