Great Shades of Elvis...
Jun. 16th, 2005 09:35 amLane Smith died yesterday(or the day before).
Not a lot of people would recognize the name, but if they saw him, they'd get who he was.
I first saw him, that I can recall, in the movie Red Dawn, where he played the mayor of the town that was invaded. Yes, that movie was schlock..if it were sci-fi, I'd put it in the top ten, but man, when that movie came out, it was...a bigger deal. The russians invading the US, kids taking up arms to defend their families and lives...Jennifer Grey and Lea Thompson. :-P
Next, he was the mayor of...LA? I think, in the V TV series...and played a conniver, and scum...I don't recall much of that one, as I didn't watch much of the TV series (At least, I probably did, but it was so bad, I forgot it)...
Hmmm..never realized he was in the Ellen Burstyn movie "Resurrection"...
Where most people would recognize him, I'd imagine, is from "My Cousin Vinny", where he played the district attorney...and quite obviously was having a lot of fun with the role.
And, another memorable role, where the title of this post came from, Perry White, in the Lois and Clark tv series...and where, in an interview, he said that the characters LOVE of Elvis was his own contribution to it...
The last movie listed in his credits is the showtime series "out of order", which starred Eric Stolz.
Good career, long life, fun actor.
