got a bug up..well, never mind.

All of a sudden, out of NOWHERE, I find myself wanting to find out the history of my family...geneology and all that. See how far back I can find, and, if possible, where we come from. Found a handy program for keeping track, and while putting information into it at one point, realize just how little I know..and felt really sad about that.

I know that, in theory, we're related to Calamity Jane, but there is no real hard proof of that, and sounds more like family...embellishment. I'd like to be able to say for certain...

So, once I get home, I'll be looking up all sorts of information, and trying to wrack my brains to remember some details about the Smith side of the family...which, I don't think I'll track back very far...THAT would be close to lunacy...YOU tell me how common "Smith" is. :-P

Other than that, today has been a day at work..my boss left me a message this morning that he was sick...and hasn't been in today...I was feeling tired and weak over the weekend, and still feel a little bit now, but man, I'm really tired of this creeping crud illness that seems to be hitting everyone.

Tonite...well, I'll watch the episode of Carnivale I missed last night, and try to clean up the Apt. some more...got a few more books organized...probably ought to do laundry while I'm at it. And read more of "Tangled Skein".

Was told that Gaiman can't commit to my convention, so am looking into other authors...Tara K. Harper is one I'm considering, as well as Bujold, as friends were really hyping her to me...now to find a few books of hers, and read them...because, I refuse to consider a guest I haven't read. :-) Altho, I may just have to try Stephen King first...and see if that's even a possibility...of course, I'd have people scream out that he's not Sci/Fi-Fantasy...except for a few of his books, but he's still more relevant than some.

Eh, King is horror. He counts. And a lot of his books have supernatural elements. It's be hard to make a case that he doesn't apply to sci-fi/fantasy -- except for people who feel that a mainstream author can't also be a sci-fi/fantasy author *shrug*.

I think he's a long-shot though. I would think that if King were attainable, one of the really high-budget cons would have booked him some time during my con career. I'm sure you know that, but you can't reach a star without trying, I guess :).

Heh. The other thing he could say is, "I can come, but my appearance fee is $$$$$" (your eyes bug out).

Oh! Orson Scott Card, that's my suggestion....certainly one of my favorite writers style wise and craft wise. I think he could fall into scifi/fantasy...ender series, shadow series, hatrack river series...Those are the ony ones I've read. I've perused his works on how to write scifi/fantasy and general fiction as well, and they seem very put together....

At any rate, what I really wanted to suggest is the social security death index. do a google search and you can find places to search it for free. If you know relatives death/birth date and or place you can search for them retrieve an ssn and get more information that way. Drop ahnyka a line to she might have some hints, her family has done a lot of that research.

I feel the tug just a little myself because all I know about my dad's family is he had a mom, dad, sister and brother. We don't even now why his brother has a different last name than he did...and we don't know where he is now....I'm curious but not moved enough to research. Some day I may pick your brain though so prepare!
